Who Are We

Since 1887, the North Dakota Education Association has been advocating on behalf of North Dakota students and their teachers. Click on the navigational links to see who we are and what we do.

Our Purpose...

The North Dakota Education Association, established in 1887, has given North Dakota education more than a century of service. Nothing can take the place of the satisfaction teachers get when the light finally goes on in a student's eyes. It's why we become teachers. Our mission is simple...

  • It's improving the political climate and economic conditions for public education
  • It's promoting educational excellence, innovation, and equal opportunity
  • It's being a leader in school reform
  • It's improving the status of teaching professionals and other education employees
  • It's working toward the elimination of all forms of discrimination

Everything we do, from lobbying for increased school resources to reaching out to build coalitions and community support for our schools, is designed to make public education the best it can be for the kids we teach. Together, we work to make sure North Dakota's schools remain vital and strong and our students get nothing short of the best education possible.

The Programs of the NDEA
NDEA members in more than 250 affiliated local associations across the state can take advantage of a variety of programs and services designed to help them provide the best possible educational opportunities for North Dakota's public school students. Here is a brief overview.
The People of the NDEA
NDEA membership has remained steady throughout its long history with approximately 8,500 education employees part of the Association.
The History of the NDEA
The Association became more active in the area of negotiations after 1969 when the state's first negotiations law was passed. The NDEA's increased political activity began about the same time. It now interviews and recommends for election those candidates who are friends of education as determined by their voting record or their interview answers.
